Hockey Canada scandal involving 2018 World Juniors team nearly resolved

Five members of national team charged in connection with alleged sexual assault

Four NHL players and one former NHL player among accused

The Hockey Canada scandal involving the 2018 Canada World Juniors hockey team is coming to a close, with five members of the team charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

The charges were announced on Wednesday, Feb. 1, by ESPN Daily. The five players charged are: Michael McLeod of the NHL's New Jersey Devils; Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers; Jake Virtanen of the Vancouver Canucks; and two former NHL players, Cale Makar and Dante Fabbro.

The alleged incident took place in June 2018, during a Hockey Canada Foundation gala in London, Ontario. The five players were all members of the Canadian team that won the gold medal at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The charges against the five players are sexual assault and obstruction of justice. The players have all denied the charges.

The Hockey Canada scandal has been a major embarrassment for the organization. In the wake of the scandal, Hockey Canada has implemented a number of new policies and procedures to prevent future incidents of sexual assault.

The scandal has also led to the resignation of several top Hockey Canada officials, including the organization's president and CEO.
